Description: Classic Wire Rings explores a popular technique through an in depth examination guided by the perspective and fluency of an accomplished goldsmith.

This minimalist approach to jewelry making enables anyone to produce innovative work with just a few basic tools, using readily available materials.

This workshop takes the concept of wire working to a whole new level. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of the process and gain new fluency with the material as they work side by side in the studio with Michael. .

Students create 5 classic wire wrapped ring designs with a modern twist: rosette, swirl, spiral, joined knots, and adjustable band rings. These practical exercises cover the processes of forming armatures for rings and pendants, adding embellishments, and wrapping decorative borders.

Materials Included in Required Kit: Copper, fine silver, and a written handout.

Students must bring these REQUIRED MATERIALS to class: Small plastic mallet, steel ring mandrel, flush side-cutting pliers, chain nose pliers, flat nose pliers, round nose pliers, half round pliers, parallel pliers, #4 barrette needle file, 1.5 mm cup bur, pin vise, 12 inch ruler, magnification, writing materials, fine-tip permanent marker.
