Technique: Metalsmithing
Description: This class will begin with the student learning the proper techniques of ""chip"" soldering. Included in this tutorial will be an overview of why such things as pickle, flux and different types of solder are used for various projects.
The students will cut out, file, sand and clean their own copper disks for soldering onto. They will then begin arranging the vintage watch components onto the disks and use a soldering technique called sweat soldering to permanently attach the parts.
The components will then be cleaned and assembled using jump rings and a clasp handmade of conditioned iron wire. This project will be completed in class.Materials Included in Required Kit: Copper sheet, vintage watch parts, iron wire, hand outs and consumables.
Students must bring these REQUIRED MATERIALS to class: Round nose pliers, flush cutters that can cut 18g.wire and chain nose pliers.
